The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suame, Frank Owusu Ansah, has assured the public of plans to relocate traders from the roadside to a newly constructed facility, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion.

Mr. Owusu Ansah made this commitment in response to numerous complaints regarding the encroachment of traders, which has been hindering the ongoing Suame Interchange project.

He pointed out that, Contractors involved in the project have voiced their frustrations, noting that traders occupying the middle of the road are obstructing their ability to work efficiently.

According to the MCE, the Suame Municipal Assembly is actively preparing a new site for the traders and intends to facilitate their relocation in the near future. He has urged residents to refrain from disposing of refuse in the gutters, which exacerbates the issue of drainage in the area.

During a media briefing at a cleanup exercise in Old Suame, he stated, “I’m urging parents in Suame that we’ve firstly met the queen mothers, and we are trying to build a place for them so that we can move them from the roadside to that place.

“What I could say is that, by next month, we’ll make sure that we move them there (the new place). So I’m putting it before them that when we’re moving them, they all abide by that to move to the new place that has been built for them.”

He further emphasised the importance of keeping the environment clean, remarking, “We should also make sure that we shouldn’t throw garbages into water, especially as our gutters here are all choked, which we’ve taken it upon ourselves to clean.”

Assembly Member for the Old Suame electoral area, Kwadwo Gyamfi, echoed the MCE’s sentiments, asserting that this decision to relocate traders from the roadside will significantly contribute to the timely completion of the Suame road and the Interchange project.
