The assaulted Ghanaian nurse at Ridge Hospital, Rejoice Tsotsoo Bortei, has initiated legal action against social media activist Ralph Saint Williams, filing an issue of writ.

Rejoice claims the following against Ralph:
“Damages of Five Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 5,000,000.00) for the battery suffered at the hands of Ralph Saint on the 17th day of August 2025, resulting in bodily injuries to Rejoice.

“Damages of Two Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 2,000,000.00) for the defamatory statements published by the defendant regarding the plaintiff, specifically the words: “Liar, Wo se wo nsam abu. Duab0 bebam. You say you have suffered an injured hand.”

Background

On Sunday, August 17, 2025, Rejoice Bortei was on duty at Ridge Hospital, assisting with patient care under the leadership of the Nurse in Charge. During this time, a patient who had apparently suffered a vehicular accident was brought in for treatment.

According to reports, Ralph entered the facility with a group of thugs and demanded to be treated for what he described as an injury to his fingers.

He insisted that the staff abandon their care for other patients to attend to him. Among those patients was one with an open fracture that was actively bleeding, with efforts being made to address the bleeding.

When staff requested Ralph to obtain his hospital card, he refused, asserting that his Ghana Card should suffice, as it contained all his personal information.

When informed that “it is not done like that in Ghana,” he became visibly angry, hurling insults, abusive language, and threats at the hospital staff without any provocation.

At all times, Ralph was recording video footage of the staff and patients in the room without consent or authorisation, which clearly breaches the confidentiality required for medical treatments.

He unlawfully published these video recordings online without the consent of the hospital, staff, or patients.

Despite there being no active bleeding on Ralph’s fingers, Rejoice personally provided first aid and dressed his wounds to reassure him, encouraging him to obtain a hospital card for full treatment.

However, Ralph, in a show of defiance, intentionally removed the dressing Rejoice had applied and, without apparent reason, went outside to gather more thugs. He forcibly led them back into the emergency room, claiming that the staff had abandoned the patients.

Due to Ralph’s menacing and aggressive behaviour, some staff members fled the scene. While Rejoice was diligently attending to the patients, Ralph and his followers accosted her without provocation, striking her left hand with a clenched fist and a metallic cellphone.

The attack took Rejoice by surprise, as it was entirely unwarranted.
