Lumba’s final funeral rites underway in Kumasi

The final funeral rites of legendary Ghanaian highlife musician, Daddy Lumba’s, are currently underway at the Baba Yara Stadium n Kumasi, Ashanti Regional capital.

The event has drawn a large crowd of mourners, music lovers, industry players and high-ranking personalities from across the country.

The solemn-yet-colourful ceremony has attracted several prominent and influential individuals.

Their presence underscores the immense impact Daddy Lumba had not only on Ghana’s music industry but also on national culture and public life.

Security was visibly tight as organisers worked to manage the large crowd that gathered to witness the historic farewell. Vendors, fans, and media houses were all present, reflecting the national attention the funeral has attracted.

From the early hours of the morning, fans clad in black and red trooped to the funeral grounds to pay their last respects to the highlife icon, whose career spanned several decades and produced timeless hits that shaped generations.

Traditional music performances, gospel renditions, and instrumental versions of Daddy Lumba’s classic songs filled the atmosphere, invoking deep emotions among mourners.

Family members, close friends, fellow musicians, and industry stakeholders took turns to  pay their last respect to the late artiste, describing him as a genius, a cultural ambassador, and a man whose lyrics spoke directly to the realities of Ghanaian life.

Many speakers praised his unmatched contribution to highlife music and his role in mentoring younger artistes.
