I’m not divorced, we are separated – Afua Asantewaa clarifies

Ghanaian media personality and singathon sensation, Afua Asantewaa, has emotionally addressed issues surrounding her marriage, stating that her decision to leave had nothing to do with her recent rise to fame.

In an emotional video circulating online on April 3, 2026, Afua Asantewaa revealed that she had already left the marriage before her widely publicised singathon attempt, dismissing claims that her growing popularity influenced her decision.

“I left the marriage before singathon, it has got nothing to do with fame. I don’t do anything with this fame,” she said while visibly emotional.

She went on to accuse her estranged partner of actions that contributed to the breakdown of the relationship, recounting a moment involving a public gesture that she claims was misleading.

“Because you knew what you did to me, when Unique Flower sent me a flower bouquet, you came to kneel down as if you’re a lover boy. We fought in the hotel because you knew I was leaving,” she alleged.

Afua Asantewaa also pushed back against public criticism, urging people to refrain from commenting on issues they do not fully understand.

“You people don’t know anything. Everybody should just shut up,” she said through tears.

According to her, her father had advised her to delay the divorce proceedings due to the timing of her singathon attempt.

“It was my dad who told me to wait because of the singathon, it wasn’t the right time to divorce. If I’m lying, let my dad come out and speak,” she added.

The media personality further opened up about the emotional toll the situation has taken on her and her family, revealing that even her daughter has been affected.

“My daughter looked me in the eyes and told me, ‘Mummy, don’t let a man spoil your life,’ because she sees what the father does,” she shared.

She also criticised sections of the media, accusing them of unfairly targeting her without understanding the full story.

“And you all in the media, shameless people, you don’t know the man you are dealing with, yet you want to come at me,” she said.

Afua Asantewaa concluded by stating that she would no longer remain silent, citing increasing public pressure and what she described as ongoing bullying.

“I’m not going to shut up anymore, the bullying is too much,” she stressed.
