The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has entered into a strategic partnership with SENTUO Group Limited through the signing of three Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening Ghana’s agro-industrial base.
The agreement, signed at the Ministry in Accra, provides for the establishment of a modern cashew processing plant at Sampa in the Bono Region, and a fertilizer manufacturing facility.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote value addition and enhance productivity within the agricultural sector.
In addition, SENTUO Group Limited is expected to establish 30 Farmer Service Centres across the country to improve farmers’ access to inputs, mechanisation services, and technical support.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, described the agreement as a significant milestone in Ghana’s agricultural transformation efforts.
He noted that the partnership reflects the government’s commitment to industrialize the sector under the broader Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA).
According to the Minister, the proposed cashew processing facility will adopt an integrated approach by processing both cashew nuts and cashew apples, in line with the government’s policy direction to maximise value addition across agricultural value chains.
“We are ready to industrialize Ghana’s agriculture. We believe that without manufacturing, value addition, agriculture would continue to be an activity that would not yield the expected income. We are moving from exporting raw commodities to building a value-driven agro-industrial economy,” he stated.
Mr. Opoku further indicated that the establishment of the cashew processing and fertilizer plants is expected to generate substantial but sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
The Chairman of SENTUO Group Limited, Mr. Xu Mingjuan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s development agenda. He noted that the government’s 24-hour economy policy has reinforced the company’s decision to expand its investments in the country.
He expressed confidence in Ghana’s economic potential, citing its favorable investment climate and resource endowment.
Mr. Xu further disclosed that the company’s engineers are already on the ground and have commenced preliminary work towards the implementation of the projects.
SENTUO Group Limited has maintained operations in Ghana for nearly two decades and is also known in the oil refinery sector.
