A 27-year-old man, identified as Abdul Basit, has been arrested by police for allegedly possessing a weapon unlawfully at Sakabo, a suburb of Bawku.
The arrest was carried out on Monday, April 13, 2026, by a military patrol team during an operation in the area.
According to a statement, the patrol team, while on duty, heard gunshots and moved to the scene, where the suspect was spotted running into a room.
The police reported the suspect was subsequently pursued and arrested, retrieving an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition after a search was conducted.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon.
He has been taken into police custody, assisting with investigations, and expected to be put before the court to face justice.
