A Police patrol team from the Tema Regional Operations Unit shot an armed man to death after he attempted to attack a Mobile Money vendor at Tema Community 5 on Monday, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m.

In a statement, the suspect, together with an accomplice, was reportedly riding a black Royal motorbike with registration number M-24-GE 778 when they attacked the victim near Aba Fosuah Plaza, where she operates a Mobile Money shop.

According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the suspects posed as customers requesting a cash-out transaction.

However, while the victim attempted to process the request, they allegedly pulled out a pistol and demanded the bag containing cash.

The victim resisted, leading to a struggle during which the pillion rider allegedly fired a shot, injuring her leg and forcing her to release the bag and the suspects then fled the scene on the motorbike.

Following a distress call, the police patrol team, which was already deployed for security duties at a nearby event, swiftly pursued the suspects.

Upon reaching a junction near Smart Hotel at Community 6, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the pursuing officers.

The police returned fire, resulting in an exchange during which both suspects sustained gunshot wounds and fell off the motorbike.

They were transported to the Police Hospital for medical attention, but were pronounced dead on arrival by a medical officer.

The police revealed that the bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.

A police search conducted on the suspects led to the retrieval of exhibits, believed to have been used in the robbery.

“One (1) black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with three (3) rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one (1) round in the chamber, three (3) Android mobile phones, one Ghana Card, assorted SIM cards, one talisman, one Royal motorbike key, cash amount of GH¢11,390.00 and one spent cartridge at the scene of the robbery, ” the statement said.

The police added that the victim, who suffered a gunshot injury to the leg during the incident, is currently receiving medical treatment and is said to be in a stable condition.
