The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested six Chinese nationals for illegal mining operations along the Nyaase River in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region.
The operation led to the recovery of two pump action guns, 102 cartridges, a vehicle, and GH₵60,000 in cash.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday, April 18, 2026, during a surprise intelligence-led operation.
The taskforce observed severe environmental damage at the site, with vast acres of land devastated and two excavators immobilized.
The suspects’ residence yielded the firearms and ammunition, indicating an armed criminal enterprise.
The arrested Chinese nationals have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for legal action.
NAIMOS has vowed to continue nationwide operations to combat illegal mining, citing national security concerns.
