The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Agona East constituency, Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer, has commissioned a new gaming centre in Agona Swedru.
The programme took place on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Speaking at the ceremony, she assured attendees that the centre would ensure compliance with national gaming regulations while also generating revenue for local development and for the country as a whole.
She also expressed her appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama and the Director-General of the Ghana Gaming Commission, Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo, for selecting Agona East as one of the three areas in the entire Central Region to host a gaming centre.
“This is about bringing oversight, employment opportunities and order to an industry that affects our youths, gaming is not only for the young people but also the old individuals as well, this will help us generate funds to build developmental projects in our constituency as well.
“A very big thanks goes to president Mahama for choosing Agona East once again that we should represent so many constituencies in the Central Region, the whole Central Region they are setting three and Agona East is one of them, and Agona East is the first place we are setting this meaning our youths are very important, the youths are my priority,” she stated.
Mr Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo also highlighted the Commission’s contribution to national development and added that the facility will begin full operations next month.
He said it will oversee licensing and monitoring, as well as provide public education on responsible gaming activities in the constituency and surrounding areas.
He further urged members of the public to engage in responsible betting, noting that only individuals aged 18 years and above are legally permitted to participate.
