The incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East in the Eastern Region, Abena Osei-Asare, has secured her fourth consecutive term in office in the recently concluded 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
Her victory was confirmed on Sunday, December 8, following her re-election by voters in the constituency who overwhelmingly endorsed her through the voting process on Saturday, December 7.
Madam Osei-Asare garnered 17,501 votes, representing 66.38% of the total 26,364 votes cast.
Her closest contender, Lawyer Kenneth Agyare of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), obtained 5,334 votes, representing 20.23%, while the Independent Candidate, Nana Adjei Kyerema, secured 3,286 votes.
However, 243 votes were classified as rejected ballots after the counting process.
With this re-election, Madam Abena Osei-Asare will represent the Atiwa East constituency in the 9th Parliament for a fourth consecutive term (2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024).
In a brief remark after her victory was announced by Electoral Commission (EC) officials, Madam Osei-Asare thanked party executives and constituents for supporting her re-election.
“Thank you all,” she expressed briefly at the EC’s collation center before departing.
In the presidential results, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, received 17,208 votes, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate obtained 8,236 votes.
