The Tepa Circuit Court has jailed a 24-year-old unemployed man, Justice Ezekiel, to 14 years in prison for stealing plantain and cassava worth GHc 50 at Akwasiase, a farming community near Tepa in the Ahafo Ano Tano North District of the Ahafo region.

The suspect was convicted after he pleaded guilty to stealing the food items from the farm at Akwasiase.

Police Chief Inspector, Jonas Newlove Agyei, told the court that on September 5, 2021 the convict had gone to harvest the plantain and cassava and was loading them into a sack before his arrest by owner of the farm.

He stressed that Ezekiel who is an ex-convict was then sent to the Tepa police station together with the stolen foodstuff worth Ghc 50.

Ezekiel admitted the offence in his caution statement and was charged and brought before the court after investigations.

Her Lordship Gwendolyn Millicent Owusu sentenced her to serve as deterrent to other offenders.
