All political parties contesting the 2020 general elections have agreed that the government declares voting day, December 7, a public holiday.
The decision was reached at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Wednesday, December 2, the Electoral Commission announced in a statement.
It followed the Commission’s proposal to the Chief of Staff and the Ministry of the Interior to gazette Monday, December, 7, 2020, a Statutory Public Holiday.
“The Commission’s proposal seeks to give Registered Voters the opportunity to devote the day to exercise their civic right and responsibility to vote during the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary Elections,” the Commission said in a statement issued shortly after the meeting.
Present at the meeting according to the Commission, were representatives of all the political parties, civil society organisation’s (CSO’s) and development partners.
Registered voters are expected to vote between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm on
Monday, December, 7, 2020.
