The Secretary-General of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, Wamkele Mene arrived in Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday for a five-day visit to the West African country.
His first official visit was on the invitation of Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.
The visit will take place from 26 – 30 July 2021 and will primarily take place in the capital of Abidjan.
Mr. Wamkele Mene was accompanied by officials of the AfCFTA Secretariat including Senior Advisor to the Secretary General, Peter Joy Sewornoo and Senior Advisor – Customs Demitta Gyang
AfCFTA Secretary-General is expected to have consultations with President of Cote d’Ivoire, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Trade and Industry, Federation of West Africa Employers Association (FOPAO), and the Organised Private Sector.
African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a flagship project of Agenda 2063 of the African Union — Africa’s own development vision.
The AfcFta aims at accelerating intra-African trade and boosting Africa’s trading position in the global market by strengthening Africa’s common voice and policy space in global trade negotiations.
As at 5 February 2021, 36 countries have deposited their instruments of ratification. 36 countries have ratified the AfCFTA agreement.
