Private legal practitioner, Alex Gyamfi has called called for the strict implementation of the law that states that MPs could be expelled from Parliament if he/she absents himself/herself from sittings for 16 days.
“They applied the same law to Dr Busia and expelled him from Parliament so I think we can do this because to him much is given, much is expected…,” he said.
He further called on the MPs to tone down on the level of partisanship in the country because that is having an adverse effect on the work in the House.
“I think we should tone down on the level of partisanship in the House because it is having a negative effect on the country…,” he charged.
Lawyer Gyamfi also called on the MPs to know that Ghanaians are learning from them and hence have to set the right examples for others to follow.
The number of MPs attending Parliamentary sittings have dwindled over time which is indirectly affecting the work of Parliament.
While the members of the Majority caucus have been accompanying their colleague MPs and other Presidential aspirants for campaigns, the Minority have been boycotting sittings to attend court hearings of their embattled colleague, James Gyakye Quayson who is standing trial on criminal charges for holding dual citizenship.
