The Coalition of Concerned Persons with Disabilities (CCPWDs) is demanding an immediate apology from the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for making some remarks that seem “offensive” to stammers

John Dramni Mahama during a campaign rally implied that his main opponent in the December 7 presidential election, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia known for his fluency, stammered during a media interaction, suggesting stammering is linked to dishonesty.

The CCPWDs, however, did not take his remarks lightly in a statement sighted by Peacefmonline.com.

The disability group said the comment was “insulting”, adding that, stammering, a speech disorder affecting millions, has no connection to a person’s honesty or competence.

The coalition called on Mahama to publicly apologize and clarify that stammering does not equate to dishonesty, stressing the importance of respecting the dignity of all individuals, including those with disabilities.
