Fraud and Security Consultant, Richard Kumadoe, has voiced critical views on Ghana’s democratic system, arguing that the country is failing to uphold true democratic principles.

In an interview with Ama Brako Ampofo on Angel TV, Mr. Kumadoe pointed out that when compared to other countries, Ghana’s democracy reveals significant deficiencies.

He emphasized this by stating bluntly, “We are not practicing democracy,” referring to the actions and attitudes of the Ghanaian people within what is supposed to be a democratic framework.

“It is you who says you are going to law schools, every year, you turn out a whole of lot thousands of lawyers in this country, yet we cannot read and write the very laws we wrote for ourselves.

“Sometimes some of us who have traveled extensively on issues of geopolitics and security intelligence and political security, then it is obvious that what we are practicing in Ghana has no resemblance with democracy,” he said.

According to him, “It is something else you guys are doing,” adding that the actions of the people are “so wayward.”

Expressing his deep concerns about the state of the country’s governance, he further remarked, “You [Ghana] don’t know exactly what you are doing,” highlighting the uncertainty and lack of direction in the nation’s democratic practices.

Richard Kumadoe made this statement while commenting on Tuesday’s parliamentary proceedings, where enhanced security measures were implemented to prevent any potential clash between the majority and minority over the ongoing tension regarding the status of four vacant parliamentary seats.

He proposed that, moving forward, the country should rely more on its chieftaincy institutions by allowing traditional authorities to make decisions for the state, rather than relying on parliamentarians who are struggling to interpret the laws.

“I think that our forefathers who were traditional authorities and had no formal education were able to govern well without reading laws but with the privilege of education, our current parliamentarians have failed themselves and failed everybody in this country.

“So going forward, we should hand over the country to chiefs or we should better go and look for people who understand what this whole democracy is and come and govern us.”
