A Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has alleged that some members within the Majority Caucus in Parliament have vowed to engage in galamsey activities until July 2025.

According to him, the NDC does not have the goodwill to fight galamsey in the country instead, some top parliamentarians have committed to practice the act until the stipulated date.

“When you talk, they’ll say NDC still has goodwill, so we should exercise patience. I also know that NDC members have made up their minds to engage in the galamsey business until July,” he alleged on Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

The former Deputy Minister of Health made the comment while expressing his disappointment in the NDC  government’s will in curbing the menace.

He, however, shared the belief that the wisdom of Ghanaians is applicable to help stop the galamsey practice.

He argued that President Mahama’s introduction of the National Gold Board (GoldBod) aimed to restructure Ghana’s mining sector, will rather increase illegal mining in the country as it is not a mechanism to stop the situation.

“No government will fight the galamsey menace because it involves gold. Today, Ghana is very hard, and everyone needs money. The GOLDBOD that they’re bringing will significantly increase the galamsey business,” he added.
