President John Dramani Mahama has called on members of the newly sworn-in Ghana Armed Forces Council to carry out their duties with wisdom, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to national service.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama acknowledged the council, chaired by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, along with six members: Edward Omane Boamah, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mubarak Muhammad Muntaka, Daniel Addo, Fuseini Iddrisu, and Nancy Dakwa Ampofo.
President Mahama emphasized the council’s crucial role in maintaining Ghana’s stability, strengthening national security, and ensuring that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) uphold the highest standards of professionalism.
He reminded the council members that their decisions would greatly impact the country’s defense strategy and the overall welfare of the military.
The President also highlighted their duty to protect and uphold the peace Ghana has maintained over the years.
“Today, as we swear in the distinguished members of the Armed Forces Council, we reaffirm the critical role of this body in the governance and administration of our military. The responsibility placed on your shoulders as a council is one of great national importance.”
“The strength of our armed forces depends not only on the bravery of the men and women in uniform but also on the leadership, policies, and decisions that guide them.”
Mr. Mahama stated that the council’s mandate is clear, urging them to provide strategic leadership that ensures the Ghana Armed Forces remain an effective, modern, and disciplined force.
“To uphold the highest standard of governance, professionalism, and accountability within the military. To safeguard the welfare of our officers, men, and women who risk their lives in the service of our nation.”
He further stressed that, “the decisions you’ll make as a council will shape the future of our armed forces. It is therefore imperative that you approach this duty with wisdom, integrity, and a deep commitment to national service.”
President Mahama explained that the Ghana Armed Forces are not just a vital institution within the national security framework but also the guardians of sovereignty, protectors of Ghana’s democracy, and a source of immense pride for the nation.
He stated that for decades, the Ghana Armed Forces have maintained a reputation for professionalism and earned international recognition for their dedication to peacekeeping missions, humanitarian efforts, and the defense of territorial integrity.
