Mahama’s achievements in 4 months surpass Akuffo-Addo’s 8 years-Haruna Mohammed

The Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Mohammed Haruna, says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks the moral authority to criticise the government’s new cocoa price.

According to Haruna, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) six-month administration under President Mahama, has achieved comparable results against the NPP’s eight-year tenure.

He praised Mr Mahama’s leadership labelling it as smooth-running and grounded in a deep sense of responsibility.

“We’ve only spent six months in office, and I always feel proud because our good governance, tailored initiatives, and effective structures are already being compared to someone’s eight years,” he said.

Haruna expressed confidence in the government’s trajectory, stating the scale of achievements the NDC will record in its first term would be “unmeasurable.”

“If in just six months we’re creating waves, imagine four full years by God’s grace…,” he remarked.

He further described the newly announced Cocoa Producer Price as a fulfilled promise made to farmers during the 2024 campaign, indicating “the farmers can see the difference for themselves.”

He dismissed the NPP’s claims that the government failed to honour a GHC6,000 pledge, calling the NPP’s commentary unjustified.

“Everything we said during the campaign was true,” Haruna insisted.

He made the remarks on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, following criticism from the minority caucus that the government had betrayed cocoa farmers’ trust.

The comments came in the wake of the government’s announcement of a 62.58% increase in the cocoa producer price—from US$3,100 to US$5,040 per tonne. In Ghana cedis, the price rises from GH₵49,600 to GH₵51,660 per tonne, equivalent to GH₵3,228.75 per 64kg bag.
