President John Dramani Mahama has encouraged Ghanaians, especially those in formal employment, to consider engaging in agriculture alongside their regular work.
He highlighted the advantages of farming for all citizens, noting that it can serve as an extra source of income.
According to him, agriculture should not be seen as an occupation reserved only for rural dwellers or those who pursue it full-time.
“Agriculture isn’t the preserve of people in the villages,” Mr. Mahama emphasized.
He explained further: “You can maintain your regular job and still operate a farm. Teachers and civil servants, for instance, can manage farms in addition to their work, and the earnings from those farms can supplement their salaries.”
The President underscored that adopting farming as a secondary activity would not only strengthen household finances but also enhance national food security and reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported food.
Mr. Mahama reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fostering conditions that make agriculture more appealing and profitable for workers across all sectors.
