Senior Aide to Kennedy Agyapong and Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Kofi Owusu Bempah Bonsu, has expressed his distress when asked to speak on the economy.
Speaking on ‘Anopa Bofo’ (formerly Angel Morning Show), he stated that the current performance of the cedi under President Mahama makes it difficult to defend former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who was in charge of the economy.
He mentioned that, considering how President Mahama, who was labelled as incompetent by Dr. Bawumia has managed the cedi, it will be a disgrace to speak about it as the NPP Communications Director.
“I feel a bit uncomfortable talking about the cedi because we had a leader whom we expected to deliver, but at this moment, I can’t say anything about the cedi,” he said.
He highlighted that Dr. Bawumia boasted that he had “locked” the cedi, giving the political party high hopes and false confidence.
“I feel shy when I talk about such issues; Our presidential candidate said he had locked the cedi, so we were confident, boasting that we are the only political party that pegged the cedi to the dollar,” Owusu Bempah stated on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
