The Minister of Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has stated that ongoing discussions concerning the constitutional review process will not lead to the issuance of a white paper.
Addressing the media at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Mr Iddrisu emphasised that the Mahama-led administration is focused on more than just economic stability.
He noted that the growth and transformation have been acknowledged by the media, clarifying that the current constitutional review process, established under the Prempeh Committee, is distinct from that initiated under Article 278 of the 1992 Constitution by President J.E. Mills.
Mr Iddrisu revealed that a team of experienced lawyers is currently examining the report submitted to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. Following this thorough review, the report will be scrutinised by the cabinet and made available for public engagement.
“So, currently, there is a team of crack lawyers who are reviewing the report that was submitted to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. After that scrupulous scrutiny, it will be subject to cabinet, political party, and public engagement,” he said.
He reiterated that President Mahama will establish a Constitutional Review Implementation Committee to oversee the implementation of both entrenched and non-entrenched provisions of the Constitution.
Mr Iddrisu further stressed that the constitutional review led by Professor Prempeh was not established within the true meaning of Article 278 of the Constitution.
“So no white paper will be issued in that respect but what is acceptable will be declared and made known to the public,” he added.
