Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha has extended an invitation to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to visit Ukraine in February 2026.
The invitation comes after Ghana raised concerns about a Ghanaian citizen captured in a combat zone, reportedly involved as a Russian mercenary.
Mr. Sybiha acknowledged Ghana’s request and assured that “Ghanaian diplomats will be granted access to prisoners of war upon request, in accordance with international humanitarian law.”
He expressed readiness to discuss the matter substantively with Mr. Ablakwa during the proposed visit, emphasizing a desire to engage Ghana in a spirit of “friendship and mutual respect.”
Okudzeto Ablakwa welcomed the invitation, stating that the Ghanaian government will continue to prioritize the safety and welfare of its citizens and highlighting the strong, cordial relations between Ghana and Ukraine.
