The Forestry Commission (FC) has issued a strong condemnation regarding the tragic killing of Mr. Raphael Ganyo, a Resource Guard with the Wildlife Division at the Kalakpa Resource Reserve in the Volta Region.
Mr. Ganyo was fatally shot on January 6, 2026, during a patrol near Zitoe Camp.
According to the FC, a patrol team investigating a suspected trafficking incident encountered an armed individual hidden in dense vegetation near the Reserve’s boundary.
During the confrontation, Mr. Ganyo was shot in the chest by gunfire from the poacher and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
This incident was promptly reported to the Ghana Police Service, which conducted crime scene investigations.
The deceased has been transported to the Ho Regional Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The commission further indicated their collaboration with the GPS to identify the culprit
“The Forestry Commission is collaborating closely with the Ghana Police Service to identify and apprehend the perpetrator.”
The FC expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of Mr. Raphael Ganyo.
