George Kofi Arthur declares readiness for Western NDC Chairmanship position

Former Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central in the Western Region, George Kofi Arthur, widely known as “Engineer”, has declared his intention and readiness to contest the Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region.

Popularly referred to as “Hon. Engineer” in political circles, the Chairman hopeful has formally announced his candidature for the respected position.

Mr. Arthur is a distinguished Ghanaian politician, educationist, technologist, development-oriented leader, and a former parliamentarian of Ghana’s Parliament.

He boasts of more than a decade of parliamentary service and a strong background in engineering, education, and governance, coupled with a deep passion for research, technology, and national development.

Thus, he maintains that despite his aforementioned status, he seeks to return to active politics and contribute fresh ideas to strengthen the party in the region and the country at large.

Mr. Arthur is appealing to the party’s faithful and executives in the region to rally their support behind him to realize his vision.

Hon. Engineer . George Kofi Arthur is a distinguished Ghanaian politician, educationist, technologist, development-oriented leader, and former Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central. He was born on 24th February 1969 at Wassa Agona Amenfi in the Western Region.

Early Life and Education

He began his early education at Wassa Agona Amenfi Catholic School, now known as Agona Amenfi D/A School. He later moved to Kumasi, where he continued his basic education at Opoku Ware Preparatory School. He gained admission to Asankragwa Senior High School in the Western Region, where he pursued Science and distinguished himself as the top science student of his era at the school.

Following his secondary education, he enrolled at Presbyterian College of Education, Akuapem Akropong, where he obtained a Diploma in Education, graduating with Distinction in Educational Technology.

Teaching and Professional Training

After completing college, Hon. Arthur served as a teacher at Daboase JHS in the Wassa East District, where he taught diligently for five years (1995–1999).

In 1999, he gained admission to the University of Education, Winneba – Kumasi Campus, where he pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology, specializing in Electronics and Automotive Engineering (1999–2003).

He undertook his National Service at Toyota Ghana, where his performance earned him employment. He worked with Toyota Ghana for an additional two years, gaining valuable industrial and technical experience.

Further Education

While serving as a Member of Parliament, Hon. Engineer . George Kofi Arthur further enhanced his leadership capacity by pursuing a Master’s Degree in Governance and Leadership at GIMPA from 2016 to 2018.

Work Experience

Over the years, Hon. Engineer. George Kofi Arthur has acquired diverse professional experience across education, engineering, electronics, and construction. His work experience includes:
• Teacher at Daboase JHS (5 years)
• Engineer/Technician at Toyota Ghana (2 years)
• Electronics Specialist at Anyasco Electronics, Kumasi
• Construction and Engineering Works at Afrangua Construction Limited

During his time with Afrangua Construction Limited, he contributed to major road construction projects across the Western and Western North Regions, including:
• Asankragwa – Sefwi Bekwai Road
• Enchi – Elubo – Nzema Road
• Bamiko – Tarkwa Road
• Bibiabi Road

These experiences broadened his understanding of infrastructure development and regional integration.

Leadership Journey

His leadership qualities were evident from his early years. His leadership roles include:
• Assistant Entertainment Prefect at the University
• President, Technology Students Association
• General Secretary, Mpohor Constituency (NDC)
• Member, National Communications Team, NDC

His dedication, loyalty, and competence eventually led to his election as Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, a position he held from 2005 to 2017, serving 12 continuous years.

Parliamentary Career and Committee Work

During his time in Parliament, Hon. Engineer . George Kofi Arthur served diligently on several key committees, reflecting his versatility and commitment to national service. His committee roles included:
• Roads and Transport Committee
• Privileges Committee
• Deputy Ranking Member, Public Accounts Committee (2006–2017)
• Agriculture Committee
• Housing Committee
• Employment and Social Welfare Committee
• Chairman, Defence and Interior Committee

As Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, he championed innovative ideas, including advocating for the provision of gotta phones for Members of Parliament to enhance communication and efficiency.

Mr. Arthur is widely known for his love for research, technology, and innovation. He is a charismatic and influential leader, admired for his boldness, courage, humility, respectfulness, diligence, discipline, willingness to help others, strong influence, and visionary leadership.

He stands as a symbol of experience, competence, and progressive leadership. With a solid background in education, engineering, governance, and parliamentary service, he remains a man of the people, a man of vision, and a man prepared to lead.
