The Akatsi District Police Command has commenced investigations into a disturbance that led to a shooting incident and destruction of property at Deti, a suburb of Akatsi in the Volta Region.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, left two victims injured. They have been identified as James Kpanda, 44, and Jonathan Kpanda, 30, who sustained gunshot wounds.
A Mercedes-Benz private car, two motorbikes, and a fence wall were also destroyed during the disturbance.
Police preliminary investigations indicate that at about 10:30 a.m. on the said date, some young men, including the two victims, allegedly went to the residence of suspect Mensah Awagah and began pulling down his fence wall.
The suspect, reportedly infuriated, allegedly retrieved a gun from his room and fired at the group, injuring James and Jonathan.
In retaliation, the youth went on a rampage and set ablaze the Mercedes-Benz and two motorbikes parked within the suspect’s residence.
According to the police, by the time personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived, the vehicles had been burnt beyond recognition.
Suspect Mensah Awagah has since been apprehended and is in police custody assisting with investigations, while the injured victims are receiving treatment at the Akatsi District Hospital.
Police have launched a manhunt for other suspects involved in the incident.
