A former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Solomon Owusu, says that the opposition party stands no chance of returning to power in the 2028 elections.
According to him, even if the party made Jesus Christ its flagbearer, victory would still elude it.
Mr. Owusu cited the NPP’s newly elected national executives at its recently ended national delegates’ conference, saying they do not represent a winning team.
He believes the executives possess no credible alternatives to change the narrative following the NPP’s poor performance under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo-led administration, which led the party into opposition.
“I don’t envy the NPP. Even if they were to bring Jesus Christ to lead the party, it will not erase from our minds that Ken Ofori-Atta has run away from this country.
“The only time that it will make sense that any Ghanaian will think about the NPP is when Ken Ofori-Atta returns. How is it going to erase from our minds that the [National Cathedral] hole is still there?. It has not been covered,” he said on TV3’s NewDay morning show.
Mr. Owusu, who is the United Party’s (UP) Director of Communications, highlighted Hawa Koomson’s election as Women’s Organiser and questioned her campaign promise to provide pepper spray to women.
In his view, the NPP has lost touch with Ghanaians and emphasised that even Jesus Christ could not salvage the party as its leader in 2028.
Mr. Owusu was, however, optimistic that the United Party would win the next general election and chart a new path for a better Ghana.
