The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has directed the immediate suspension and investigation of the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School over alleged sexual misconduct involving a female student.
The directive follows a JoyNews investigation by Manasseh Azure Awuni titled “Inside The Dreaded Headmaster’s Bungalow.”
In a statement released on Tuesday, October 13, the Ministry of Education said it had taken note of the allegations and considered the matter serious.
The Minister has consequently directed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Enerst Kofi Davis to take immediate steps to suspend the headmaster, Mr. Zakaria Abdulai, pending the outcome of a full investigation.
He has also requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to commence investigations into the matter.
The Ministry and the GES reiterated their commitment to ensuring that such alleged misconduct is not tolerated in any educational institution across the country.
According to the statement, parents and guardians entrust their children to teachers, whose responsibility is to protect and safeguard them rather than subject them to abuse.
