Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has dared the Minority in Parliament to provide proof for their claims that funds meant for Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa cannot be accounted for.
According to the Minister, the evacuation was carried out in response to heightened attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa and was completed after three days on September 4, 2026. He said his Ministry subsequently briefed the media on September 7 to give a full account of the operation.
Mr. Ablakwa has pushed back against allegations that some beneficiaries on the evacuation list are untraceable and that part of the budget for the exercise is missing.
He maintains that every returnee received both the reintegration package and a transportation allowance, and challenged critics to find a single person who says otherwise.
“I have been looking for one Ghanaian to step forward and say that when we were evacuated from South Africa, the 5,500 Cedi reintegration allowance I didn’t get it as a Ghanaian,” he stated.
The Minister described the Minority’s claims as an attempt to manufacture a scandal out of an operation that has been widely commended, insisting that all payments were made and properly accounted for.
