The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has cautioned motorists and vehicle owners against paying traffic fines into personal mobile money numbers or through unofficial accounts under the newly introduced TrafficTech-GH system.
In a statement released on Wednesday, November 4, the Police warned that fraudsters could take advantage of the new automated traffic law enforcement system, which officially took effect on November 1, 2026, to scam unsuspecting motorists.
According to the Police, motorists must first confirm that traffic violation notifications are sent from the official sender ID, GPS-MTTD, stressing that legitimate notifications will not originate from ordinary mobile phone numbers.
Motorists are also advised to open their Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) or ticket to verify the vehicle’s photograph and registration number, as well as the location, date and time of the alleged offence. They are further encouraged to watch the accompanying video where available.
The Police explained that payments can be made through the National Investment Bank (NIB) payment portal by visiting https://traffitech-ghpay.nib.com.gh, selecting the ‘Make Payment’ option and entering the ticket number to complete the process.
Alternatively, motorists can dial *7100# and follow the prompts to make payments using their ticket numbers.
It has also provided a dedicated contact number, 059 692 2402, for motorists who require assistance or further clarification.
The Service has called for the cooperation of motorists, vehicle owners and transport operators in ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations and promoting safer roads across the country.
