Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for showing love and compassion, following the helicopter crash tragedy.
He said this on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 when the NPP leadership visited the NDC headquarters to offer condolences for the loss of five of its party stalwarts who died in the helicopter crash.
“When the incident happened, the first person to call me was Former President Nana Akufo Addo, after that both past and current NPPs who have been in government also called to extend their condolences, which shows the love between us,” he said.
He noted that, despite their differences, both parties are ultimately one people, and it’s often diverse opinions that create divisions among them.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia added that, since a party is not a command center where every member’s words can be controlled, their best approach is to facilitate communication across all levels and encourage the youth from both parties to unite and refrain from divisive social media posts.
“Party isn’t a command organisation that if you’re a general secretary or chairman, you can tell what every party member will say.
“What we need to know is to organise our communication at all levels; we leaders must know that if we were not able to advise them to stop doesn’t mean we will encourage to continue, with that we can unite the country,” he mentioned.
He underscored the need for they as leaders to mentor and correct the youth, as failure to do so would lead to the youth blaming them in the future for not fostering unity among them.
