Use music to heal emotional struggles – Sarkodie counsels Kinaata

Award-winning rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, professionally known as ‘Sarkodie’, has advised fellow musician Kofi Kinaata to rise above his emotional struggles as he faces a standoff between national tragedies and his music.

Born Martin King Arthur, and popularly known as Kofi Kinaata, the highlife singer had expressed deep concern over his inability to release a song in the wake of recent deaths.

He cited the emotional distress caused by the loss of 16 children, the passing of legendary musicians, and the Obuasi helicopter crash in which eight people lost their lives.

Mr. Kinaata, in a social media post, revealed that the weight of these events had been heavy on his heart, especially knowing he had flown on the same aircraft involved in the tragedy earlier this year.

Moments after the post, the celebrated rapper acknowledged his colleague’s trauma and urged him to overcome it by channeling his grief into music.

Sarkodie further explained that, as an artist, one does not have to suppress such emotions but rather use music as a tool for emotional expression and communal healing.

“It’s a very dark time and I can relate a 💯 %… as a true artist, you can only channel what you feel so don’t fight it just pour out what you are feeling inside…,” he said, in reposting Kinaata’s initial post on Monday, August 25, 2025.

He encouraged Kinaata to transform his pain into creative output that could resonate with others facing similar struggles.

“…you don’t know who might need it. Drop the music,” Sarkodie’s advice reads further.

In response, the ‘Effiakuma Broken Heart’ hitmaker said, “the landlord has spoken.. It is finished,” he said as he paid tribute to Sarkodie by resharing his words of wisdom.
