Two men have been arrested in connection with the violent clashes that erupted at the Omanjor Chief’s Palace during Saturday’s Homowo Festival, leaving three people dead and several others injured.
The Accra Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests in a statement issued Monday, September 1, 2025, identifying the suspects as Christian Saka Ahianyevi, 35, a private security officer, and Newton Alotey, 26, a dispatch rider.
According to the statement, Ahianyevi was picked up on August 30, the day of the incident, while Alotey was arrested the following day.
Police say both men are believed to have played key roles in the violence, which marred the annual Ga traditional celebration.
During the arrests, officers retrieved 18 spent BB cartridges from Alotey. Ahianyevi was found with a locally manufactured pistol, a cutlass, and other exhibits, all of which have been taken into police custody.
The suspects are currently assisting with investigations, as police maintain a heightened security presence in the affected communities.
The Accra Regional Police Command has urged residents and all factions involved to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement.
