The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has sanctioned a budget of $860,000 to support the Black Stars in their upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Chad.
Ghana’s national football team is set to face Chad and Mali in two pivotal fixtures during the September international window.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams disclosed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) had initially proposed a $1 million budget for the away match against Chad.
However, he noted that following a thorough assessment, the Ministry approved a reduced figure of $860,000.
“The estimate submitted for Match Day 7 [against Chad] was over $1 million. After review, the Ministry approved about $860k. The ticket for players and officials, we have a flat unit for all players and officials, but some spend more, while others spend less.
“The flat amount was $6,000 per ticket for all 28 players and officials. Flight tickets presented to the Sports Ministry are always higher than what is required. The Ministry, since I took over, has reviewed and even used alternative means to buy the tickets,” Mr. Adams said at a press conference, Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The Stars have departed Ghana this evening en route to Chad for their highly anticipated match on Thursday, September 4.
They will return with a home fixture against Mali, scheduled for September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
