The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has called for urgent attention to be given to the goalkeeping department of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
He believes this must be done ahead of the team’s participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2026.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, the lawmaker emphasized the need to bolster the confidence and readiness of Ghana’s goalkeepers, particularly Benjamin Asare, who has recently become the first choice stopper.
“We need to build our goalkeeping area well because we’re going to play in the World Cup. Benjamin Asare is good, but we must help him build his confidence,” he said quoted by Sporty FM.
He explained that “The World Cup is a different kettle of fish; there will be 70,000 or 80,000 people in the stands, and stage fright can be very worrying.”
Ghana’s qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in USA, Mexico and Canada marks the fifth time the country’s history.
