A 47-year-old man, Kwame Ti-Zaaekuu, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Lawra Circuit Court for sexually abusing his 17-year-old biological daughter in the Upper West Region.
He was also handed 10 years in hard labour for threat of death. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The conviction was secured on Friday, July 24, 2026, after a full trial presided over by His Honour Stanley Adjei, according to a press release from the Upper West Regional Police Command dated July 26.
Police said the conviction followed an investigation and prosecution by the Lawra District Police.
The court heard that the convict, who is the girl’s father, abused the JHS student over an extended period and threatened to kill her if she reported it.
The Court further directed the Department of Social Welfare in Lawra to provide counselling and psychosocial support to the survivor.
The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, commended the investigators and prosecutor.
He urged the public to promptly report all forms of sexual and domestic abuse to the Police.
