The Ashanti Regional Constituency Chairmen’s Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a night vigil to be held in honour of the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
According to a statement dated Monday, July 27, 2026 and signed by Caucus Chairman Kofi Acheampong and Secretary Frederick Agyemang Mensah, the vigil will take place on Friday, August 14, 2026 at the DMB Regional Office, Asokwa. It starts at 7:00 PM and will run “till dawn.”
The caucus said the event, dubbed “Vigil Night: Stand With Chairman Wontumi”, is being held on the eve of the Ashanti Regional elections.
The statement said the vigil has two main purposes: to stand in solidarity with Chairman Wontumi, “whom we believe has suffered an injustice,” and to honour his “legacy of unprecedented and illustrious leadership as Ashanti Regional Chairman.”
“It is also meant to send a clear signal, locally and internationally, that we will not stay silent,” the statement added.
Organizers are calling on all constituency executives, party faithful, and well-wishers to attend. They assured that the vigil will be “peaceful and disciplined throughout.”
