Ghanaian gospel musician and police officer, Kofi Sarpong, has been promoted from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP).
The promotion took effect on October 6, 2026, and was announced by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The Ghana Police Service decorated 22 officers at a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters in Accra following approval by the President and recommendations from the Police Council.
Kofi Sarpong has successfully balanced his career in the Ghana Police Service with his music career for more than two decades.
He joined the Police Service and steadily rose through the ranks from Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to his current position as DCOP.
Beyond his police career, Kofi Sarpong has established himself as a respected gospel musician, with several popular songs to his name, including the hit song “African Borborbor.”
The latest promotion marks another milestone in his long-standing career in public service while continuing to contribute to Ghana’s gospel music scene.
Speaking during the ceremony, IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno said the promotions were intended to strengthen leadership within the Police Service and enhance public safety across the country.
DCOP Ruben Asiwoko, who spoke on behalf of the promoted officers, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the country and pledged their commitment to their duties.
