Parliament of Ghana has finally amended the Constitutional Instrument 91 (C.I 91) and replaced it with Constitutional Instrument 126 (C.I 126).
The Electoral Commission of Ghana submitted C.I 91 to Parliament for an amendment with C.I 126 which they will empower the EC to go ahead with the compilation of the new voters register.
The new CI also grants the EC the power to use the Ghana Passport and the Ghana Card as the source documents for the new register.
The main opposition political party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has led series of protests against the use of these the Passport and the Ghana Card as the only source documents.
The NDC is currently at the Supreme Court seeking to compel the EC to accept the old voters register as part of the source documents for the registration.
