Bechem Utd apologizes to Asante Kotoko over player’s dangerous tackle on Mbella

Ghana Premier League, Bechem United side has rendered an apology to Kumasi Asante Kotoko following an unsporting behavior exhibited by their player Samuel Osei Kuffour towards Frank Etouga Mbella.

It occurred that the central defender engaged in an indecent tackle on Asante Kotoko’s Cameroonian forward, Frank Mbella, during the sides outstanding GPL week 19 fixture at Bechem on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 while challenging for a ball.

Frank Mbella and Osei Kuffour went in chase of a loose ball, with the latter outpacing the center forward to make a timely clearance. Osei Kuffour lost self-control and stamped Mbella who was already on the ground in an off-ball situation.

Bechem United reacting to the incident in a statement, condemned the unsporting behavior of their defender and asked the public to forgive him.

“We wholeheartedly apologise to Asante Kotoko SC player Frank Thierry Mbella Etouga and the entire football fraternity for the unsporting behavior by our young defender Samuel Osei Kuffour.”

According to the club, despite Kuffour being one of the most disciplined players in camp, his action will not be swept under the carpet.

“We would like to reiterate that though Kuffour has been one of the most disciplined players in camp, the management of Bechem United have taken discipline measures against him to serve as a deterrent to the entire team” the statement noted.

The club proceeded to accept that irrespective of the unpardonable attitude of the player, discipline has always been the “hallmark” of the team of which every member is expected to be a good ambassador.

Meanwhile, the player, Samuel Osei Kuffour expressed remorse and asked for forgiveness from Mbella following the incident that transpired during the game.

“I want to articulate my apology to the Cameroonian attacker, Mbella and Kumasi Asante Kotoko. I want to fill everyone in that the tackle wasn’t a deliberate attempt to blight the career of the prolific striker, I am very sorry” he said.

However, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association has charged the Bechem United defender for a misconduct in accordance to Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019.

Osei Kuffour is therefore expected to respond to the charge by 5:00pm on Thursday, March 10, 2022 else the case will be adjudicated without his statement of defence.
