The top scorer of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League, Yaw Annor has expressed excitement after emerging as the highest goal-scoring player in the just-ended season.
The Ashantigold winger won the golden boot prize for netting 22 goals to beat a keen contest from Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s Cameroonian import Frank Mbella who scored 21 goals.
The achievement also meant the enterprising player equaled the goal-scoring record set by ex-Accra Hearts of Oak legend Ishmael Addo in a single top-flight season.
The former Ghana Premier League and Accra Hearts of Oak player held the record of the highest goal-scoring tally of 22 goals he recorded in the 2001/02 season.
However, Yaw Annor who scored two goals in the last matchday against Bibiani Gold Stars managed to equal the long-standing record after 21 years.
Speaking on his achievement in an interview, the former Bechem United attacker noted how excited he was to add his name to the history book of the competition as part of the players with the most goals in a calendar year.
“I’m very delighted to win the Ghana premier league goal king and equaling My senior Ishmael Addo’s record. It was very difficult league but I fought very hard to win the GPL goal king” he opined.
He also admitted that Accra Lions FC was the toughest opponent he played against out of the entire season.
“Accra Lions is my toughest opponent in the Ghana Premier League they were very solid in our home and away game against them,” the hero told Original FM.
