‘Stop behaving like Ghana’s destiny is hinged on $3M IMF Loan’ – Al-Wahab

International Diplomatic Consultant, Farouk Al-Wahab, has accused the Finance Ministry of behaving as if Ghana’s destiny is hinged on the $3 million loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the consultant, negotiations had already been made with the IMF, even before the bill was passed, hence he is struggling to find out how the bill will affect the IMF loan.

“I am asking and asking again, how does that one affect that negotiation? Could it be that the Finance Ministry signed on to certain clauses as part of the deal without informing Ghanaians…?,” he quizzed.

He further questioned the reason behind the statement from the Finance Ministry urging President Akufo-Addo to thread cautiously on the signing of the bill into law.

“Is $3 million what Ghana needs to survive on. Is Ghana’s destiny hinged on $3 million. What it means is tomorrow if IMF tells Ghanaians I don’t like some of the colours in your flag, is that what you will come and tell me…,” he queried.

He questioned why they didn’t take measures to rake in more revenue for the country so government will cease depending on loans.

“The only thing the ministry knows is to depend on aid, grants, facilities and loans…it tells you that, the Ministry of Finance signed that agreement that when we take the money, we will make sure not to pass that bill. It is simple as that, because it makes no common sense in the history of the world. It doesn’t make governance sense, to tell your sitting President, if you sign this, we will not get any money,” he said.
