Busing of registrants: Asawasi NDC members curse Akufo-Addo, NPP et al.

Some members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawasi Constituency of the Ashanti Region have invoked curses on the leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party including Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Also joined in the curses are the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong, Alidu Seidu and both regional and constituency executives of the NPP in the Ashanti region.

The NDC is accusing the NPP of busing non-residents to Asawasi constituency to partake in the ongoing registration exercise being conducted by the Electoral Commission.

The Asawasi constituency has been the stronghold of the NDC. The party believes people being bused to the area to register is meant to increase the NPP’s chances of unseating the NDC.

According to Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo, the NDC members in Asawasi are believed to have hired an unknown person to perform the ritual assignment.

They went to a stream at Asawasi with eggs and schnapps to slaughter a sheep, thus invoking curses on any member of the NPP behind the busing of people to the constituency.

Deputy NDC Asawasi Constituency Secretary Marwan Abdul Wahab told Osei Kwadwo the executives of the party in Asawasi Constituency support the move by the members of the party.

According to him, NDC Asawasi executives have complained about busing of non-residents to the constituency by NPP executives, but nothing has been done about the issue.

“Today, we arrested 20 years old boy who was bused from Pakrono to come to Asawasi to register including his 24 group of students. NPP members including regional and Asawasi executives are busing non-residents to Asawasi constituency to register. They want to win Asawasi seat by all means but we are not going to allow any non-residents to come to Asawasi constituency to register” Marwan said.
