NDC never paid for construction of Nkrumah’s hometown roads – Ellembelle DCE

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ellembelle, Kwasi Bonzo has described a claim by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for the area, Hon Armah Kofi Buah that, the ongoing road construction at Nkroful and parts of Ellembelle North was awarded on contract by erstwhile NDC administration as false.

He however admitted that the NDC administration awarded the contract without paying a pesewa to a Chinese construction company on 18th September, 2015 to construct the road. He however said the road was not to be asphalted.

According to the NPP parliamentary candidate, the said “sapetin roads” was to be completed within eighteen (18) months.

The road was commenced in October 2015 and expected to complete in 2017.

Hon Bonzo added that failure to pay the contractor made the contractor put a stop to the construction of the said road.

“Seeing the said roads as inferior, I decided to take new step to construct asphalt roads in memory of the first president of republic of Ghana, Osagyefo Dr kwame Nkrumah…,” he said.

The road leading to the hometown of the first president of this country has been in deplorable state for a very long time without any proper attempt to reconstruct it.

He revealed how Ghana Gas Company Limited refused to assist him when he approached them for financial support.

He revealed that finally the ongoing Nkroful and Ellembelle North roads are being funded by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).

Hon Bonzo revealed that an amount of 5,000,000.00 has been paid to the contractor to construct 21 kilometers of deplorable roads in the said areas in Ellembelle.

According to the NPP parliamentary candidate, the contract was awarded on 21st August, 2019 to two contractors and expected to be completed within an agreement period of eighteen (18) months.
