COVID-19: 8 out 16 beds in our ICU occupied – Ridge Hospital

Eight out of 16 beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge are occupied following the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country, authroities at the hospital has said.

According to the hospital, only two beds at the ICU were occupied by patients about three weeks but the number has sharply risen following the community spread of the Delta variat of the disease.

Out of the eight, the hospital communicated that three are oxygen support.

Ghana first confirmed six cases of COVID-19 Delta variants among passengers arriving in the country on June 22, 2021.

The Ghana Health Service said no fewer than 136 students in the Achimota School have been infected with the COVID-19 Delta variant.

During the latest national COVID-19 update, 136 out of 550 samples taken among students in Achimota School came out positive, said Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, Director-General of the GHS.

The country currently has over 2,000 active cases with a little over 800 deaths. The country has recorded more cases in the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions.
