Newly appointed Ghana Black Stars coach, Milovan Rajevac, believes that he has the capacity to take Ghana to the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The new head coach for the Senior National Team made this remark during his unveiling at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headquarters on Friday, September 24, 2021.

“If I did not believe in making the World Cup, I would not have accepted the job. I believe in the players”, he said at a press conference to unveil him.

He added that if the players have faith in him as much as he trusts them, the team will chalk a lot of successes.

Ghana’s new coach has been promised $300,000 as bonus if he takes Ghana to the World Cup and another $300,000 to win the AFCON tournament in Cameroon

Milovan will be assisted by Otto Addo, Assistant Coach for Borussia Dortmund, and Maxwell Konadu, Head Coach for Legon Cities.

The Serbian, who once headed the team in 2008, takes over from C.K. Akonnor, whose contract was terminated on September 14, 2021 following the receipt of a technical report from the Management of Black Stars.

Prior to his unveiling at the GFA Headquarters today, Milovan was highly tipped as one of the people to head the Black Stars when a three-member committee was tasked to find Ghana a new coach.

His reappointment has been met with mixed reactions from the public with some expressing optimism in his coaching prowess having taken Ghana to the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa, where Ghana was knocked out at the quarter final stage by Uruguay.

During his unveiling, he stated that “Ghana is my second home and the chance to work in Ghana is a good one”.

He also noted that he wasn’t desperate to be reappointed as Ghana’s coach.

Milovan Rajevac will earn $30K monthly in his one-year deal with the GFA, which is subject to renewal if he qualifies the Black Stars to the World Cup.

On his part, the GFA President, Kurt Okraku, disclosed that Rajevac will not live in a hotel throughout his stay in the country.

He also called on all and sundry to support “our own”, implying the Black Stars and Coach Rajevac.

On his first appointment in 2008, Coach Milovan played 28 games, out of which he won 12, lost 12 and had 4 draws making his winning rate 42.9%.

He scored 35 goals in all and conceded 33.
