Three jailed 30 years for possessing marijuana

A Circuit Court in Asamankese in the Eastern Region has sentenced three persons to 30 years imprisonment, for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs.

The convicts have been given a 10-year jail term each with hard labour.

They include; Kwadwo Gyimah, Kwadwo Yirenkyi and Michael Apraku.

Kwadwo Gyimah, a drug dealer, was arrested at Akyem Swedru on January 9, 2019 by police officers within the area.

Following his arrest, 111 wrappers of substances concealed in a newspaper, which later proved to be marijuana after a test, were retrieved from the convict.

He was convicted on his plea, after he was processed for court and charged with unlawful possession of narcotics, which he pleaded guilty to.

Also, Kwadwo Yirenkyi who was identified as the supplier of the drugs was given a ten-year sentence with hard labour.

The last accomplice, Michael Apraku who went into hiding to resist arrest was later picked up by the Akyem Oda police command following a tip-off.

He was then charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a public officer.

The court also handed him a 10-year-sentence with hard labour for his crimes.
