There was a heavy police presence at the Tema District Court in the Greater Accra Region Monday, February 11, 2022, where #FixTheCountry convenor, Oliver Barker-Vormawor appeared following his arrest over the weekend.
Mr. Barker-Vormawor was arrested soon after arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, for a social media post he made threatening to plot a coup should the e-levy tax policy be passed by Parliament.
He made the post after pictures of the E-levy cake at the Majority Leader’s 65th birthday party went viral.
The police, after confirming his arrest noted that the post contained a clear intent and willingness to execute a coup to subvert the constitution of the Republic of the country.
On Monday, February 14, some members of the #FixTheCountry Movement stormed the premises of the Court, to show solidarity to their leader.
In a related development, the suspect has been remanded into prison custody for two weeks.
He has been charged with treason felony.
The Presiding judge, Eleanor Barnes denied the accused bail due to the nature of the offense citing that her court does not have jurisdiction to do same.
The judge directed the police to allow the lawyers and family members of Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a maximum of three members, from 10am to 4pm daily.
