The Assin North District Assembly in the Central Region through the Department of the Social Welfare, has supported 53 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), marginalised and vulnerable in the District.
While some of the beneficiaries received cash to foot their medical bills, others got capital to be reinvested in their already existence businesses.
The items, which included sewing machines, fridges, spraying machines, shoe making machines, wheelchairs, cash and many more were categorized into financial, educational, medical, and income generation support for all persons to enhance their livelihood.
The Director, Social Welfare Unit and Community Development of the Assin North District, Emmanuel K. Dadzie, said the move forms part of government commitment to alleviate the challenges of the Physically challenged to prevent them from begging on the streets.
The intervention, he stated, was meant to make PWDs self-sufficient and to empower them to contribute meaningful to societal development and to also make life more comfortable to them.
District Chief Executive of Assin North, Charles Ohene Andoh, called on the beneficiaries to proper utilize the items and reap the full benefits to their lives to ensure they are demotivated form embarking on streets begging.
The DCE assured that the Assembly would continue to adopt intensive monitoring exercise to ensure that the items and cash received were used judiciously.
Receiving the items, the beneficiaries thanked the Assembly for their support and pledged their commitment to putting the items and cash to good use to the intended purpose.
