The Management of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), have said the ongoing reconstruction of transmission lines from Achimota to Mallam substation will not lead to any frequent power interruptions, also known as ‘Dumsor’.
A joint statement released by GRIDCo and ECG refuted reports claiming there will be power outages in some parts of the Greater Accra Region following the ongoing reconstruction project.
According to the two major stakeholders in the power sector, despite the ongoing works within the period, “it will not lead to Dumsor.”
“Our attention has been drawn to press reports with headlines such as DUMSOR to hit Accra for 84 days in reference to a public statement issued by GRIDCo, which announced announcement of the reconstruction of transmission lines from Achimota to Mallam substation”
“Whilst we confirm the reconstruction work on our transmission lines has commenced since Saturday, April 9, 2022, we wish to assure the public that the ongoing work will not lead to any DUMSOR,” the statement said.
The joint statement noted that, Phase 1 of the project, which was completed in November last year, was successfully undertaken “without any significant disturbance to power delivery in Accra and its environs” adding that “Phase 2 of the exercise from Achimota Substation to Avernor will similarly not disrupt power delivery in Accra.
They explained that the bulk supply of Kasoa, Mallam, Accra Central, Pokuase and Achimota substations have enough transformer capacities to meet the desired demand without any load curtailment or load shedding.
“We wish once again to reassure Ghanaians that GRIDCo and ECG are collaborating effectively to deliver power whilst the reconstruction work goes on,” they assured.
